As book compiled by a cast member and a producer, and with a foreword by the creator/showrunner, Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office takes a much more optimistic, less critical tone than Andy Greene's The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s。 It has the advantage of getting on-the-record involvement from a few key figures who didn't participate in Greene's oral history, but it lacks that volume's fair critiques and dissenting views。 This becomes es As book compiled by a cast member and a producer, and with a foreword by the creator/showrunner, Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office takes a much more optimistic, less critical tone than Andy Greene's The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s。 It has the advantage of getting on-the-record involvement from a few key figures who didn't participate in Greene's oral history, but it lacks that volume's fair critiques and dissenting views。 This becomes especially apparent in the chapters about the final seasons of the show, critiques of which are underplayed here。 On the flip side, this book does a better job discussing the legacy of the show and why it resonates so much, even with young fans who weren't alive when the show aired。 Of note, Jen Celotta's contributions about the psychology of characters and their backstories are a real treat, not to mention instructive for students of screenwriting and acting alike。I would strongly recommend reading both books, not just one or the other。 Personally, I found Greene's oral history more illuminating and even-handed, but Baumgartner and Silverman's reminded me of why I love the show so much and what a phenomenal job the show did of developing characters over time。 I'm ready for a rewatch after Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office, and you will be as well。 。。。more

I loved this, of course! If you are a fan of the office it's all just so much fun to read about。 My only frustration was that for some reason there is nothing at all from Mindy Kaling。 That was a bummer! Otherwise it was really great to read all of the back stories of one of my favorite tv series。 I loved this, of course! If you are a fan of the show you will enjoy this。 I don't say this often but for this book I would recommend having the physical copy because I found it confusing to just listen to the audiobook as it was easy to lose track of who is speaking。 I think having the audiobook and the book to follow along with is better。 Also you get to enjoy the pictures and the format of the physical copy is better than the ebook。 If you are a fan of the show you will enjoy this。 I don't say this often but for this book I would recommend having the physical copy because I found it confusing to just listen to the audiobook as it was easy to lose track of who is speaking。 I think having the audiobook and the book to follow along with is better。 Also you get to enjoy the pictures and the format of the physical copy is better than the ebook。 。。。more

I bought this for my 14 year old for Christmas and listened to the audio to preview to make sure there wasn’t inappropriate material。 There wasn’t and I think he will enjoy it。

A fun, nostalgic book。

Idk if the book was bad or just the audio was bad but this felt like a huge waste of time

I read the other oral history book and am an avid listener to The Office Ladies podcast so I was skeptical this would have anything new, but I'm glad to be wrong。 The subtle of all books extolling The Office should be "Wherein Greg Daniels is shown to be brilliant。" I read the other oral history book and am an avid listener to The Office Ladies podcast so I was skeptical this would have anything new, but I'm glad to be wrong。 The subtle of all books extolling The Office should be "Wherein Greg Daniels is shown to be brilliant。" 。。。more

Did not work for me as an audiobook。 The tone is all off - it loves itself too much。 The humility that made The Office so brilliant is missing here。 The voice actors are a big disappointment。 Earns a 3 purely on the strength of the story。

I guess this makes me a completist off The Office oral histories? But I’ve never listened to the podcasts。 Listened to the audiobook, and they did a good job of finding voice actors to imitate the voices of the actual actors。 An actress pretending to be Jenna Fischer, who pretended to be Pam。 Strange, but it works。What I’d like to hear more about is how The Office became so beloved—or how any TV show does。 What’s the secret sauce? All in all, a great listen。

I wish Goodreads gave us the ability to do half stars because I give Welcome to Dunder Mifflin 4。5 stars。 The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is Brian Baumgartner's The Office Deep Dive podcast in print form。 On the plus side, there are some great photos throughout the book and the interviews are done to coincide with the topic of the chapter instead of just individual interviews like on his podcast。 The book is beautifully put together and is a nice keepsake to have for fans I wish Goodreads gave us the ability to do half stars because I give Welcome to Dunder Mifflin 4。5 stars。 The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is Brian Baumgartner's The Office Deep Dive podcast in print form。 On the plus side, there are some great photos throughout the book and the interviews are done to coincide with the topic of the chapter instead of just individual interviews like on his podcast。 The book is beautifully put together and is a nice keepsake to have for fans of The Office。 。。。more

An interesting journey about the production of one of the best comedy shows (personally my favorite)。 It give some interesting facts about the other side of the production, the making of, how important was the social environment to make this a real big hit that still very interesting till these days cuz of the streaming era。

If you’re a big fan of The Office and have previously read articles and interviews or listened to podcasts, there isn’t much new information in this book。 I liked how it was set up。 They covered every base, from casting to the effects on pop culture today。 I did feel misled, though, by the book claiming there were interviews from the cast。 While technically there are, these interviews are read by completely random people who have faintly similar voices to the cast, so that was odd。 It was also o If you’re a big fan of The Office and have previously read articles and interviews or listened to podcasts, there isn’t much new information in this book。 I liked how it was set up。 They covered every base, from casting to the effects on pop culture today。 I did feel misled, though, by the book claiming there were interviews from the cast。 While technically there are, these interviews are read by completely random people who have faintly similar voices to the cast, so that was odd。 It was also odd to add the Billie Eilish interview。 That didn’t add anything to the oral history of The Office。 If you haven’t done much of your own reading/listening about the show and cast, this is a good audiobook。 If you have, then it’s just okay。 。。。more

“Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy。 Both。 I want people to be afraid of how much they love me。”The Office is one of my favorite shows。 I watched it when it first aired on television and I was hooked from episode one。 It wasn’t something that I’ve ever seen before。 Every single episode has me cracking up。 Every time I go back to watch it, I feel as if I’m revisiting an old friend who knows how to comfort me。 I just love it。I was stoked when I heard about this book being released and I could “Would I rather be feared or loved? The Office is my FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL TIME! Any other Office fans out there? I was so thrilled when I got this book from Custom House and Brain Baumgartner! Do I have most of the office memorized? An insiders look into The Office! I liked learning about the back story and liked that the audiobook was read by the characters (or an actor reading for the character but close enough)。

I am a huge fan of The Office。 (I have the full show on CDs, and I still watch episodes on Comedy Central。) I had read about Brian Baumgartner's podcasts although I had never heard any of them。 This book tells the story of the beloved show from behind the scenes, from the perspective of the actors, writers, directors, and the other people who made up the crew of the show。 It took all of them to make us feel like we were part of their blended family。 I am a huge fan of The Office。 (I have the full show on CDs, and I still watch episodes on Comedy Central。) I had read about Brian Baumgartner's podcasts although I had never heard any of them。 This book tells the story of the beloved show from behind the scenes, from the perspective of the actors, writers, directors, and the other people who made up the crew of the show。 It took all of them to make us feel like we were part of their blended family。 。。。more

This is the second oral history book to be published about The Office and it still manages to be insightful and entertaining。 There seems to be a treasure trove of stories about the show so many that I'm sure more books could be written and still not cover it all。 This book is a must for any fan of The Office! If you’ve listened to either of his podcasts, The Office Ladies, the Mike Schur podcast, or read the Andy Greene book, there’s almost nothing new here。 A few little tidbits here and there and not worth the time。 However, if you haven’t consumed any of those, you will love it。

Want More Stories About The Office? Of course you do。This oral history gives you a chance to see behind the scenes。 What you will find is the heart of the show。 Honest and funny 。

Received an ARC courtesy of the publisher via EdelweissI like the oral history of the TV show, but I could have done without some of the padding at the end of the book。
